Rich Hamilton paints a tapestry of traditional and original bluegrass and oldtime mountain music with the fiddle, clawhammer banjo and guitar. His singing won the 2nd place ribbon in the 2009 Mt Airy, NC Fiddlers Convention Folk Song Category. The"Cornstalk Fiddle" disc has received repeated airplay in various markets around the country and a featured review in Bluegrass Unlimited Aug 09. Rich has appeared throughout New England and New York and has also performed in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, North Carolina and Canada to date.  The Grassfields, a trio formed in spring 2013 with Rich on the fiddle, banjo and guitar are available to entertain at weddings, company outings, private parties, concerts, festivals, hoedowns, honky tonks and bluegrass parades. He is also available for lessons and workshops on fiddling and oldtime banjo technique and bluegrass performance. Come and get your Hoedown!

 

Cornstalk Fiddle and a Shoestring Bow by fiddler Rich Hamilton represents the first solo effort of a fiddling career spanning 30 yrs. With deep roots in bluegrass music, Rich debuts with an album featuring southern fiddle and banjo tunes from the old time songbook with a few original songs to boot.

Playing tunes of Edden Hammons, Fred Cockerham, Benton Flippen and the original Carter Family, he pays homage to some of the finest fiddlers to ever rosin a bow. Tunes include Greasy Coat, Cousin Sally Brown, Pretty Little Girl, Arkansas Traveler, Chilly Winds, Lonesome Valley.Cotton Eyed Joe, Jenny Lynn, Cider Mill and 3 original songs; Moonshine Land, A Trace of Affection and Here We Go Again.  Read the lyrics.

Fiddlin Rich has fiddled on stage with Karl Schiflet and the Big Country show from TX, Big Country Bluegrass from VA, John McEuen and Jimmy Ibbotson of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and has performed at Bill Monroe's childhood home in Rosine, KY with the Stillhouse Jammers and at nearly every major bluegrass fest in the Northeast including Grey Fox, Thomas Point Beach, Winterhawk and Joe Val.
